Candidates who are invited to an assessment center usually have already past a first filter test, like a telephone screening or common job interview. This allows a direct comparison of the candidates and, as a side effect, increases the pressure on each individual.

Christmas Blues and End-Of-Year- Depression in an Expat Life

According to the first blog written on our homepage, the TSP blog is supposed to focus on topics related to HR and recruitment. However, because of the pre-Christmas time, I decided to focus on people.  Being in touch with people is one of the aspects I like best about my job, however it naturally  always involves some uncertainty – people change their minds and have good or bad days. You can never take anything for granted. In time, you get to know your candidates well, and one of the most rewarding tasks in our job is maybe to finally find a job for a person who has been searching one for a long time. What all expats have in common is that they lack the stability that one has when living in one’s hometown or home country, a stability that makes you less vulnerable towards ill influences. This is why I would like to dedicate today’s blog to the personal issues, that all of us have to deal with every now and then.

Why Emotional Intelligence at workplace matters?

The term "emotional Intelligence" is being heard more and more often in the world of human recources. What is it, and why is it important to talk about it?

Daniel Goleman, an Amercian psychologist introduced the term Emotional Intelligence (EI) to the general public. He defined it as the ability to receive and apply knowledge from your emotions and the emotions of others. Contrary to popular belief, Emotional Intelligence is not about being nice: it is a way of being smart – having your emotions under control, making the right decisions and using your influence on others in order to achieve common goals.

A curious trend is being spotted in job market; more and more Spanish people are emigrating to other European countries, especially to Germany. Nevertheless is it not the same kind of emigration which we have seen previously. Nowadays, an emigrant is typically someone with diplomas and advanced language skills. A new definition has been created for this type of job search: a person with education is now called an expat whereas a person without any is still referred to as an emigrant.
