The integration of new talent in a company

The integration of new talent is critical in the question whether a candidate is going to succeed in a company or not. In smaller companies there might not be resources to invest in long term initial training and in bigger companies the process might be standardized and too impersonal.

Learn to code, and boost your career prospects

Last year, I made a decision to purchase a book, ¨PHP for beginners; ¨ will follow this reading up with ¨Visual Basic for dummies¨ soon. Frustrated by not having so much flexibility on what I see on my computer, be it a website, or any software I used, I decided to teach myself some programming.

Assessment Centers and How They Work

Assessment Centers and How They Work

Candidates who are invited to an assessment center usually have already past a first filter test, like a telephone screening or common job interview. They are evaluated simultaneously with other candidates who are considered for the same position. This allows a direct comparison of the candidates and, as a side effect, increases the pressure on each individual.

Just recently German president Christian Wulff had to resign due to accusations of corruption. Don’t worry, I won’t discuss this matter any further. But interestingly the first thing he did after his resignation was to go to a monastery to spend some time alone.

On the value of work

On the value of work

Some time ago I read about two German sociologists who investigated life satisfaction. They tried to estimate with a complex model how much it would cost the German welfare state to compensate the dissatisfaction induced by job loss. After some profound research they finally stated that the satisfaction we get from a job is actually invaluable.

A new trend which is growing within recruitment and which is seen more every day while screening candidates; the square with funny black and white shapes in the corner of a CV. The same square we have seen on our blackberry, on advertisements, on posters, online and even in some stores – the QR code.

Christmas Blues and End-Of-Year- Depression in an Expat Life

According to the first blog written on our homepage, the TSP blog is supposed to focus on topics related to HR and recruitment. However, because of the pre-Christmas time, I decided to focus on people.  Being in touch with people is one of the aspects I like best about my job, however it naturally  always involves some uncertainty – people change their minds and have good or bad days. You can never take anything for granted. In time, you get to know your candidates well, and one of the most rewarding tasks in our job is maybe to finally find a job for a person who has been searching one for a long time. What all expats have in common is that they lack the stability that one has when living in one’s hometown or home country, a stability that makes you less vulnerable towards ill influences. This is why I would like to dedicate today’s blog to the personal issues, that all of us have to deal with every now and then.

The job search can be really frustrating. There is nothing more depressing than looking for a job, sending thousands of applications and improving your CV without getting any feedback. Looking for job through the internet usually takes longer than doing it through references. However when you come to a new country the most common and realistic way to find a job is doing it online.

Social Media - to be or not to be?

Social Media - to be or not to be?

It is purely your choice, whether to be or not to be on social networks. Nowadays it results more expensive not to be. Though, there are some examples of great offline communication, like my ex-boss, who is not on any social network, but still can easily connect with people in Uganda, Japan or Ireland. If you choose to be part of it, make an effort to do it well!

Why Emotional Intelligence at workplace matters?

Why Emotional Intelligence at workplace matters?

The term "emotional Intelligence" is being heard more and more often in the world of human recources. What is it, and why is it important to talk about it?

Daniel Goleman, an Amercian psychologist introduced the term Emotional Intelligence (EI) to the general public. He defined it as the ability to receive and apply knowledge from your emotions and the emotions of others. Contrary to popular belief, Emotional Intelligence is not about being nice: it is a way of being smart – having your emotions under control, making the right decisions and using your influence on others in order to achieve common goals.

Emigration vs. Expatriation

A curious trend is being spotted in job market; more and more Spanish people are emigrating to other European countries, especially to Germany. Nevertheless is it not the same kind of emigration which we have seen previously. Nowadays, an emigrant is typically someone with diplomas and advanced language skills. A new definition has been created for this type of job search: a person with education is now called an expat whereas a person without any is still referred to as an emigrant.
