Agile leadership for times of change

Today we live in a world of constant change, in a fluctuating economic state and continuous technological innovation. Moreover, with the complexity of managing teams formed by different generations, companies find it difficult to elect a leading figure who successfully executes its tasks.

For this reason, flexible and agile leaders are needed so that projects succeed. The leader should be a reference for the team, transmitting its way of thinking and acting and developing the same abilities on the employees.

But what does agile leadership mean?
This concept is associated with the ability to react efficiently to changes, or rather, to anticipate them. This type of leadership is based on keeping a team constantly informed and trained to be prepared for any incidents that may come.

In fact, this is the weak point that affects many leaders in times of change. They develop their skills to solve problems and learn to make quick decisions but do not externalize them to their employees. This situation generates a slow pace in the company and transmits a non-innovative image when it’s faced with change.

Thus, the main goal of an agile leader is to develop skills to meet the established goals and keep employees prepared for the difficulties of the changing environment. Usually, this type of leader has a strategic and innovative behavior, a constant communication with his team and a lot of empathy.

In addition to create a culture that values the autonomy of employees, an agile leader must develop various skills to achieve success as reflected in this post. Discover them!

Make decisions
It is important to know how to adapt to change and when it’s time to implement new initiatives. Following the guidelines and establishing a schedule is a good idea to meet the goals of the company on time.

Be Resilient
Being able to adapt positively to adverse situations and change will avoid frustration and will transmit to the team the energy needed to keep up with the change.

Learn from mistakes
Do not be afraid to make wrong decisions and to take risks (always reasoning it) is the best way to see the results of actions. A good agile leader should reduce the fear and stress of his team, by turning mistakes into opportunities to improve in the future.

Grow with experience
Experience in resolving unexpected situations is achieved through work on them for a long period of time. Becoming aware of mistakes and learning to solve them allows you to respond more quickly to problems that may arise later.

Trust the employees
Trust is the pillar of any relationship, including co-worker relations. An agile leader has to rely on his team to create a comfortable environment and to give them the opportunity to develop strategies. Like this everyone can succeed.

Prepare the team
Although an agile leader has to know how to react to unexpected events, it is essential that he train his team so that they can also make decisions quickly and effectively without help. The result is to have workers with rapid response skills for any situation. Nonetheless, they must be able to distinguish situations they can solve alone from the ones they need their leader’s help.

Even though agile leadership may seem like an easy concept to manage, it needs time for adaptation until the leader can properly carry the new way of working. Obviously the leader is the one who must begin the change to transmit it to the others so that the company is capable to adapt to new challenges.
