9 Essential Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Tips

October 20th 2020

It doesn’t matter what business or industry you’re in; you must be proactive in securing the top talent you can. With the right people in the right roles, your business can achieve massive success, and will be capable of innovating and progressing far beyond what your competitors can.

However, this all starts with securing and, acquiring, and recruiting the top talent in the first place, which is what we’re going to be focusing on within the ten essential tips below.

1. Plan for Talent
It’s important you take the time to plan your workforce and highlight the key areas and positions where you want a high performer.

There’s a supply and demand when it comes to the recruitment industry, especially in the modern world we live in where remote working means anyone can work from anywhere. Focus on your business goals and define what you want to achieve and what people you’re going to need to get there.

2. Keep the Process Simple
Keep your application process as simple and as fast as possible to keep as many people as possible interested in your position.

3. Expand Your Candidate Pool
“Guess what, you’re not going to be able to find the best of the best in just one place. You need to expand your horizons and grow the pool where you’re looking for candidates. This includes people actively looking for work, people passively searching, people not looking for jobs, and people who are already working for other companies,” shares Henry McKenzie, an HR at Brit student and Next Coursework.

Using social media platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as networking and keeping your eyes and ears open within your industry is a great way to do this.

4. Create a Great Business Culture
Look at any of the top companies, like Google, Apple, and Facebook. They have fantastic branding for their company cultures, i.e. people love to work there.

Do this within your business. If you can create a brand where people hear your name and think ‘yes, I want to work there’, you’ll have a much easier time acquiring the top talent.

5. Don’t Forget Your Own Business
“It’s surprising how many businesses fail to look for the top talent internally within their own business. Promoting someone and investing in them for both their future and the future of the business can increase morale and productivity and can bring so many benefits to your business. Just make sure these people are aligned with your business’s missions and goals,” explains Nick Harper, a business writer at Australia 2 write and Writemyx.

6. Keep it Personal
It’s easy to get caught up with keeping everything professional and formal in the business world, but this isn’t what people want. People want real. People want personal. This means talking with potential top talent in a way that makes them feel welcome, appreciated, and special. Take time to do this and make your recruitment experience that much more memorable.

7. Take Advantage of Modern Recruitment Tools
We live in the smart age, and the recruitment industry is no different. There are plenty of tech-related recruitment solutions and software out there, whether you’re managing your applications, defining what you’re looking for in a candidate, or enhancing and optimising your screening process.

Whatever aspect of your recruitment process you’re trying to improve, an online search will show many results on how you can get there. Do your research.

8. Build a Network
It’s not what you know; it’s who you know. This has always been a popular saying, and for a good reason. Business is all about networking. You need to know what’s going within the industry, who’s up for grabs, who’s searching for a job, and what the latest recruitment trends are.

You can’t do this without a trustworthy network, so if your business doesn’t already have one, start working on it. Even if you’re in contact with someone who you don’t end up hiring, you may find a position for them later down the line.
